You made your own place, you found your own voice, you wrote for the people, but not those "below". You painted a face, the prettiest one. You created a dream, a dream to be rich, a dream to belong, for those who could dream, if they could reach it all. You showed us your heroes, your perfect WASP man, who could fight a Great War, and take home the prize! A promise or disillusion? You left a lost generation. Seeking oblivion, on a lovely facade. You escaped the empty world with booz, money, jazz and sex. Get a new bob and a short skirt! You warned us as well, 'bout the sins of your dream. 'cause fortune and glory, can hardly make heroes. Your pretty, white heroes. Where... is the black hero? In the dark... w ith no voice, or the one of your choice. You said "No more!" You're no joke to be told. The New Negro comes along! A new era revolves, and a new picture to show.  A renaissance for those,   beautifully powerful...
